protein domain discovery
One useful tool in bioinformatics is being able to identify protein motifs and domains. Motifs and domains are units within a protein. Identifying these can give insight into the make-up and function of a protein of interest.
In order to find the different domains associated with the gabrb3 protein, the Pfam database was used. Each domain was identified, along with information like it's function, location, and length. In order to better visualize the protein and its domains, the Prosite image-creator was utilized to illustrate what the gabrb3 protein domains look like.

The diagram above illustrates how well conserved the gabrb3 protein is across diverse species. Both the Ion Channel and the Transmembrane domains remain the same throughout.
